Ryan Hommel's Optical Shop
While most kids were playing cops and robbers, Ryan Hommel was playing Elvis. Now 23, while most of his peers are just graduating college and attempting to find their footing in the workforce, Hommel is already a touring veteran and multi-faceted producer. His unique ability as a sideman and producer to authentically and emotionally support a song, no matter the genre, is a skill acquired by "many years of practiced restraint and patience in music," says Hommel. "My allegiance is to the song, and that's the most liberating and challenging part of what I do."
Coming into his own as front-man for his own trio, Hommel is going back to his roots. All of them. Bridging the gaps between early Rock'n'Roll and Soul, Country and R&B; Ryan Hommel Trio gives a high-energy show including both originals and a generous helping of "incredibly important songs from my upbringing and the maturing of America, as it learned to accept Rock'n'Roll into the blues, into soul and into country music. As it learned to accept black into white and white into black," explains Hommel of his trio. "Celebrating that music just makes people happy and nostalgic. Myself included."
Ryan Hommel Trio is:
Ryan Hommel (of Seth Glier, The Sweetback Sisters) – guitar, vocal
Darby Wolf (of Bomb Squad, Rubblebucket Orchestra) – organ
Ted Sullivan – drums
"Ryan Hommel delivers his beautiful music with a discipline and clarity that allows it to travel straight to your soul." -Livingston Taylor
"I recently heard Ryan sing a few of his songs... I was knocked out by his dynamic old-soul vocals and his sophisticated guitar legerdemain. He seemed able to play chords and improvise a melodic solo all at once." -Adam Levy (Norah Jones, Tracy Chapman, Amos Lee)
